The Charter is meant as a guideline, whose
principles can provide pointers towards a forward-looking urban development and
urban planning policy for other cities, districts and networks. These
deliberations are intended to inspire others to think about the issues and to
explore them within many different local environments. The Charter’s principles
are not strict rules, but rather basic ideas that are designed to provide food
for thought and inspiration to act. The Freiburg Charter will, as
such, be received openly and used to promote efforts to advance sustainable
urban planning through the sharing of ideas.
