Biogas is gas consisting mainly of methane Ch4 produced by
anaerobic digestion of organic waste. Biogas/digester gas (methane and some
carbon dioxide, and small amounts of hydrogen sulphide (H 2S), moisture and
siloxanes. Biogas or digester gas can be used as a fuel; heating purpose or
also be used in a gas engine to convert the energy in the gas into electricity
and heat. Biogas or digester gas can be produced and collected at community
wastewater treatment works, or in smaller scale household biogas plants, as has
been practiced widely in China and South Asia.
